Preparation for Session#8 on Habits of Mind

1.

In the following visual - you have to say out (real aloud) quickly the colours in which the text in written. Remember do not say out the typed words - but the colours in which they are typed. Try to do this real fast. Be aware of how you are feeling / what you are thinking at different stages - before trying, few attempts into it, once you’re able to do it well etc.

2.

Think of three characteristics which you would like to see in your or any child; Characteristics that would help the child be successful / happy in his or her life.

Do spend some time thinking how important are these characteristics and how are you ensuring that these get developed in your child?

3.

Grab a few sketch pens (or colour pencils) and some white blank paper. You are going to make a colour name tag for yourself and pin it on your dress when you come to the session.

The catch is that you have to write your name by keeping your sketch pen / colour pencil between your toes (do remove shoes or socks) and not using hands to touch the sketch pen in any which way. Ensure that you write your name clearly. You can further use your toes and sketch-pen to decorate your name tag. Make it look pretty. You can redo this job any number of times till you are really happy with the results. Remember to wear the name tag to the session. Do not take help of any other person or device to do this - simply use your toes.

4.

Today observe your child (or anybody) on the following - just observe:

  • Creativity

  • Care for detail

  • Confusion

  • Concern for time

  • Clarity of communication

Express to the person why you chose this attribute in their work by writing and giving to him/her (on blank chits / small  cards)
Observe what this giving of the card / chit does to the person.

5.

Imagine your 4yr old child is refusing to share his toy with another child who has come to visit your home. Think how you normally respond to this situation. What are your beliefs about children and about sharing?
Now that you have done the creativity session - you know you can COLLECT stuff related to sharing. Imagine you are talking to this child the next day and you want to share 20 different kinds of sharing the child does (eg: child shares stories)
Make a list of 20 such things that the child normally shares!
Make also a list of 20 kinds of sharing that you do. (eg: you share your gyan :)

6.
Come to the session breaking any habit that you have - eg: how you normally do your hair, or how you sit or how you mentally prepare ...
